Tough Interview Questions You Should Expect
Coming face to face with an interviewer means that the company that you applied for is interested in you. However, you have to prove that you’re the person they’re looking for. Most job applicants are having a hard time getting past this stage of their job search because they can’t seem to give reasonable answers to a few questions. As a job applicant, you have to prepare for any possible questions that might come up on your interview especially the toughest ones, but how? Becoming aware of the difficult interview questions is a great way to increase your chances in getting the job and here are a few examples that you should take note and prepare for.
- Why do you want this job? – The interviewer would be curious as to why you’re interested in the position they’re offering which might seem simple to answer, but it’s much harder than you think. While there’s no right or wrong answer here, you have to give them a reason that will be music to their ears. For example, you could either tell them that the company is on the rise and you want to become part of it or tell them that it’ll allow you to bring out your creative and research skills.
- Why should we hire you? – This question will appear if the interviewer needs additional convincing which is your chance to market yourself. Make it concise and make it unique as possible when answering this question as you only have a few seconds to persuade the interviewer. A good answer is along the lines of being able to think up of effective solutions under pressure, a team player, having a lot of experience being put into difficult scenarios, etc.
- Why did you quit your job? – A difficult question for applicants looking for another job and you can’t blame interviewers if they need to ask this particular question because they’re interested about the reason behind your previous resignation. This question isn’t that hard to answer because you did have a reason why you gave that resignation letter to your former employer. Just be honest about it, but whatever reason you give them, be sure that you won’t make your employer look bad.
- Would you correct your boss if they’re wrong? How would you handle it? – This is a tough one indeed because how would you correct someone who’s more powerful than you? Your success in answering this question depends on your approach and choice of words so think about every possible reasons you can come up with. When this question pops up, tell them that it depends on the situation and the character of your boss, but you’ll offer alternative solutions and ideas if given the chance.
- How much salary do you expect? – You’re now halfway through the interview, but it’s not over yet because they want to know about your salary expectations. This can be quite tricky to answer because you don’t know what is too low or too much, but there is a way to give an answer that would sound reasonable. First of all, do your research about the regular salary of that position and put your skills and experience into account. You should be able to produce a number that you’ll be confident to tell them up front.
- Tell me about yourself? – The most simple, yet complex question you’ll ever hear. A lot of applicants are choking up everytime they hear this question. This question is basically another chance for you to show what kind of person you are so think and answer it carefully because spouting gibberish will get you nowhere. Be sure to prepare a specific answer that will highlight your unique strengths and keep it short as much as possible.
